Gathering from the diverse landscape of Singapore's academic community, this year's challenge saw an encouraging registration of 80 teams and over 400 individuals from universities and polytechnics nationwide. The innovation challenge not only provided students with the opportunity to tackle real business challenges, but also offered hands-on experience with emerging technologies. Amidst this dynamic environment, emerged solutions showcased innovative, out-of-the-box thinking, offering fresh perspectives and alternative approaches from the participants.
The Road to Victory
After weeks of intense competition, anticipation reached its peak as the grand finale unfolded on 21 April 2024 at NCS Hub. The atmosphere crackled with excitement as the top 8 teams took centre stage, unveiling their transformative solutions before a distinguished panel of judges. In this pivotal moment, three teams emerged as beacons of innovation, their ingenious solutions illuminating the stage with the promise of a cutting-edge urban mobility.

As the finalists took stage, their innovative solutions illuminated the room with the promise of transformative change. Not just content with theoretical approaches alone, some teams delved deeper into real-world challenges by actively engaging with traffic-related agencies and developed concrete ideas and prototypes. This hands-on approach not only enriched their understanding but also fuelled their determination to pioneer solutions that break through conventional boundaries, ensuring their impact resonates far beyond the academic realm.

Professor James Pang from NUS highlighted the significance of the innovation challenge as a platform for students to not only innovate, but also to gain hands-on experience with emerging technologies such as Generative AI, bridging the gap between academia and real-world applications. His perspective underscores the transformative potential of experiential learning in shaping future leaders in technology.
In alignment with this sentiment, Charlotte Chiew, Head of People & Culture at NCS Group, expressed the company's enthusiasm for collaborating with NUS to foster the next generation of innovators. As the winning team, How To Train Your Dragon, hailing from the NUS Master of Science in Business Analytics (MSBA) programme, aptly put it, "We had many ideas and meticulously evaluated each one to determine the best approach. Additionally, we engaged with relevant stakeholders to gain a clear understanding of the problem statement, allowing us to work towards a winning solution." Their journey exemplifies the spirit of perseverance and the power of understanding the problem at its core.
