Meet the AY26/27 Incoming NUS MSBA Students: Six Journeys, One Shared Vision

The NUS Master of Science in Business Analytics (MSBA) cohort brings together individuals from around the world with diverse backgrounds, united by a shared ambition to harness data and AI to solve real-world problems. Meet six students who are embarking on this journey, each with a unique story, but all driven by curiosity, growth, and impact.

Tawmo (Bhutan): From Educator to Analytics Professional

After six years as an educator, Tawmo is making a bold transition into business analytics.

She chose NUS MSBA for its industry-focused curriculum and capstone opportunities, and is most excited to see how businesses use data to make real-world decisions. Her goal is to graduate with the technical confidence to thrive in the analytics field.

When Tawmo is not studying, you’ll likely find her hiking, having recently completed a challenging 34km trek at 4,200m elevation over 50 hours. That mindset of grit and perseverance is something she hopes to bring into this programme too.

Sarah (Indonesia): Building Products That Matter

Sarah joins the programme after working as a Product Manager at Traveloka, where collaborating with data and engineering teams inspired her to deepen her technical expertise.

She hopes the NUS MSBA will equip her to build more data-driven, AI-powered products while creating lifelong friendships with her global cohort.

Outside work, she’s training for the 42.195km Singapore International Marathon. Running has taught her about commitment, consistency, and believing that we can achieve much more than we think. Sarah also built an AI-powered web app to help her mother manage her dialysis care, and it reminded her that technology can be meaningful even when it begins by helping just one person you love.

Kai (Germany): Exploring Innovation Through Data

Having studied Business Administration and completed consulting internships with BCG and Roland Berger, Kai chose NUS MSBA to complement his business background with analytics and AI expertise.

Kai is excited to apply what he learns to entrepreneurship and real business challenges while gaining new perspectives from classmates with diverse technical backgrounds.

Outside class, he’s passionate about fitness and enjoys soaking up knowledge about training science and nutrition. If anyone needs advice for fitness training, he’s happy to share and support!

Marlon: From Analytics to Data Science

Currently working in data analytics at ST Engineering’s aviation business, Marlon sees NUS MSBA as the next step towards becoming a Data Scientist.

He looks forward to learning how different industries solve complex data challenges and hopes to graduate with stronger machine learning capabilities and sharper problem-solving instincts.

Outside of work, Marlon enjoys playing badminton or pickleball. When he has pockets of free time, he also likes to sharpen his focus and reflexes by playing challenging RPGs like Sekiro and Wu Kong.

Ouyang Lequan (China): Building Better AI Products

Originally from Zhuhai, Lequan studied Philosophy, Politics and Economics at Peking University before discovering her passion for AI product management at a Silicon Valley startup.

She was drawn to NUS MSBA’s strong industry connections and collaborative learning environment. By graduation, she hopes to combine analytical rigour with technical skills to build impactful AI products.

Beyond academics, Lequan fell in love with improv comedy while living in Dali, an old town in the mountains of Yunnan. She has also played badminton for twelve years, and you can reach out to her if you are up for a match in Singapore.

Shashwat Seth (India): Turning Ideas into AI-Powered Solutions

With a background in Financial Analytics and experience across securities broking and asset management, Shashwat chose NUS MSBA to bridge business strategy with technical expertise.

He looks forward to tackling real industry challenges through hands-on projects and hopes to graduate with the confidence to transform ideas into technology-driven solutions.

Outside academics, Shashwat is an avid motorcyclist who recently rode through Ladakh’s iconic high-altitude mountain passes. At just 21, he also found himself interviewing CIOs of some of India’s largest asset managers on camera.

A Global Community Ready to Make an Impact

From finance and product management to education and engineering, these six students reflect the diversity and ambition that define the NUS MSBA community.

Through rigorous learning, hands-on industry experiences, and a strong network of peers, alumni, industry leaders and mentors, they are not only preparing for the future of business, data and AI; they are helping shape it.
