ABEJA SINGAPORE PTE LTD ( Head office: Republic of Singapore, Representative / Director: Naoki Tonogi, hereafter referred to as “Local affiliate” ), a wholly-owned subsidiary of ABEJA Inc. (Head office: Minato-ku, Tokyo, CEO and CTO: Yosuke Okada, hereafter referred to as “ABEJA”) that develops AI business solutions utilizing deep learning, and the National University of Singapore (NUS) Business Analytics Centre (BAC) are pleased to announce the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on February 21st of 2018, with the aim of conducting joint R&D and talent development projects in the area of artificial intelligence (AI) in Singapore.

Under this collaboration, ABEJA and NUS BAC – a partnership between NUS Business School and NUS School of Computing to promote analytics education and R&D – will take part in joint activities to further the understanding of AI, especially deep learning, and its applications to the transformation of enterprises. ABEJA and NUS BAC will embark on a collaborative research project to analyze big data, using deep learning, in the healthcare industry in Singapore and Japan.

NUS Master of Science in Business Analytics (MSBA) students will have the opportunity to participate in summer internships at ABEJA. In addition, ABEJA’s proprietary AI and deep learning platform will be used to train students from the NUS MSBA programme. ABEJA will also conduct an annual AI and deep learning workshop for these students. Through these learning activities, both ABEJA and NUS BAC hopes to nurture AI talents for Singapore and Asia Pacific countries.

Joint research and education projects under the MOU are expected to commence in April 2018. ABEJA will continue to promote industry applications of AI along with its expansion in APAC countries by working closely with local academic institutions and companies in these countries.

ABEJA established its business in Singapore in March 2017 as its hub for entering multiple markets in the region. ABEJA has been discussing about joint R&D and talent development projects with NUS, using deep learning, since its entry into Singapore. In September 2017, ABEJA conducted a training workshop on how deep learning should be applied to business to MSBA students.
