What characterizes the NUS MSBA?

NUS is achieving global eminence in research and teaching in business, computing and allied areas. We structure the MSBA to leverage on the combined strength found in this leading global University centered in Asia, and so are able to emphasize both the analytical techniques and business contexts in the development of strategic BA professionals. This programme also has the strong support of the Singapore Government as well as key industrial players. We designed this programme from the start to substantively contribute to Singapore's aim of being the Analytics hub for this region and beyond.

What kind of students should apply?
The programme seeks students who earnestly care for their lifelong MSBA community, who intrinsically possess integrity to be professional consultants, and who habitually innovate in their pursuits of excellence. We are looking for MSBAs who purposefully bridge across ethnic groups, nationalities and genders, as they hone their communication skills for consulting. We are in quest of "crazy" ones, people who are willing and capable of transforming industries. We pre-select for collegiality, as exemplified by MSBAs and others who joined http://fb.com/groups/nusmsba. Many unique opportunities are before us, brought about by the availability of increasingly bigger datasets; and our students and graduates will be in the forefront, changing businesses and creating new ones.
We prefer the enduring, the engaging and the enterprising.

What kind of graduates are you aiming to develop?
MSBA graduates, as caring alumni, analytics consultants and data evangelists, are integrative agents who habitually, innovatively and strategically bring people, expertise and systems together, consistently contributing to both their MSBA community and their organizations' transformations.

What is a good Honours?
A good Honours is at least Upper Second Class in the British system, or magna cum laude in the American system. However, the Review Committee will also take into consideration your career credentials, the relevance of your work experience, and your other specific contributions; for example, innovative business ventures, improvement in company's workflow that resulted in substantial cost savings, etc.

Is it mandatory to send my GRE/GMAT scores for my application?
Either a GRE test or a GMAT test is required for admission, except for graduates from local universities – NUS, NTU, SMU and SUTD – with degrees in Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Engineering, Computing, Business or Economics.

Strong quantitative analysis ability (as evidenced by either a superior GRE / GMAT quantitative section score or good grades in mathematics modules taken in the above-listed local universities) will be emphasized.

What is the GMAT code for NUS MSBA?
For Full-time applicants, please select National University of Singapore- MS Business Analytics, Full Time DRT-FX-05.
For Part-time applicants, please select National University of Singapore- MS Business Analytics, Part Time DRT-FX-10.

What is the GRE code for NUS MSBA?
For Full time applicants, please select (GRE) Designated Institution (DI) Code 3558
For Part time applicants, please select (GRE) Designated Institution (DI) Code 3638

What is the minimum cut-off for GRE or GMAT?
All credentials are weighted and every applicant is summarized by a number and then ranked, so there is no minimum cut-off for any component.

I need time to study for GMAT/GRE. Does it mean that my application will not be considered if I do not submit the scores before the closing date?
Please submit all required documents before the closing date on 28 February 2018 as only completed applications will be processed.

Do I need to send my TOEFL/IELTS scores as well?
TOEFL/IELTS scores are not required.

My prior degree is obtained from a distance-learning programme. Will I be considered for the MSBA programme?
Academic qualification is one of the components which the Review Committee will evaluate. A degree obtained from a reputable distance-learning programme may satisfy the academic requirement.

Can my application be processed faster?
Once the application is received, the Review Committee will start its assessment. After reviewing, promising applicants will be contacted for interviews, which could be face-to-face or via Skype. All credentials are weighted and every applicant is summarized by a number and then ranked, so there is no minimum cutoff for any component. The Selection Committee will then meet to decide every case. Each applicant will then be informed of the final outcome.

Should I upload reports from my referees through the application portal?
Any referee report that passes through you will be much diminished in value. This is an integrity issue. Please do not upload any referee report via the application portal. All referees are urged to give their comments via the link provided to them through emails.

I am not from any of the majors listed in your programme's eligibility requirement. Does it mean that I will not be considered?
If you have relevant experience in Business Analytics and have sufficient quantitative preparation, you may apply to be considered.

My university only grants three-year Honours degrees, can I apply to enter MSBA as a fresh graduate?
Unlike for those from four-year programmes, graduates from three-year programmes are normally required to work for two years first.

I have the equivalent of an undergraduate degree, plus relevant work experience. Will I qualify?
If you believe that your paper qualifications do not adequately reflect your ample preparations for the MSBA, please consider also presenting scores from any relevant GRE Subject Test.

Given my current set of credentials/qualifications, would I be eligible to apply for/be admitted into the MSBA programme?
Applications are not evaluated until all the necessary documents have been received and the requirements have been fulfilled. Admissions are competitive, so it always helps if you can improve your credentials and qualifications.

Are there classes to help me prepare for the MSBA programme?
If you do not meet MSBA's admission requirements, please be advised that there are no preparatory classes, and do not foresee conducting them in future.
If you have accepted to MSBA programme, it is compulsory to attend the Bootcamp in July  2017 before the start of the class in preparation for formal academic study.

How competitive is this programme?
Due to the overwhelming number of applicants and intense competition for places on the programme, the selection process is difficult. Only the best from the application pool are selected and some good applicants in the last round of admissions were rejected.

After admissions, a collegial atmosphere is encouraged and developed, with students habitually sharing knowledge, not to mention food!

How many places does the MSBA programme offer for the next intake?
The programme seeks to admit as many qualified applicants as possible to join the growing MSBA community. However, numbers are constrained by the available resources which, unless substantially increased, currently do not appear to well support an intake size beyond 90 (and possibly smaller), without compromising educational quality.

Could you provide us with a tentative list of questions that I might be asked during the interview?
Successful applicants are expected to perform well during interviews without prior knowledge of what topics would be raised.

How many intakes does the MSBA programme have per year?
There is only have one intake in August.

When is the next admission cycle?
The admission cycle for Academic Year 2018/2019 is now open and will close on 28 Feb 2018.

What is the academic calendar like?
The MSBA closely follows the NUS academic calendar, available in http://www.nus.edu.sg/registrar/calendar.html, with the following two variations:

  1. There will be a two-to-three week of Bootcamp in the month of July, prior to the start of the first semester. This Bootcamp aims to prepare students for formal academic study.  It is compulsory to all incoming students.
